Participation in the Workshop on Learning and Sharing and the Mekong cooperation under the framework of CNMC and MRC

On 16-17 November 2015, Mr. Yan Samrith, Director of the Department of Legislation and Extension of the Tonle Sap Authority, attended the Workshop organized by the Cambodian National Mekong Committee on Learning and Sharing and the Mekong cooperation under the framework of the Cambodian National Mekong Committee (CNMC) and the Mekong River Commission (MRC) in the auditorium of Souma Devi Angkor Siem Reap, Siem Reap city, with the participation from the national officials of the relevant ministries and institutions in total of 25 people. The workshop was held for the main purposes: (1) to inform about the future direction of the MRC through presenting the document on the Mekong Basin Development Strategy 2016-2020, MRC's Strategic Plan 2016-2020 MRC and the structural reforms of MRC; (2) to share the understanding on the promotion of coordination and cooperation between the National Mekong Committee and member ministries and institutions under the framework of MRC and (3) to share and exchange experiences in implementing the 1995 Mekong Agreement, and legal procedures, technical guidelines as well as strategic programs of the MRC.
The participants understood the importance of cooperation of the Mekong River Commission member countries (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam), which followed the 1995 MRC Agreement on the promotion on "cooperation in all fields of sustainable utilization, management and conservation of water resources and the relevant resources in the Mekong River Basin" and discussed to exchange experiences on the efforts in implementing the 1995 Mekong Agreement, and legal procedural, technical guidelines and other strategic programs and future direction of the MRC through the Basin Strategic Development Plan of the MRC's strategy for the years 2016-2020.​
