Training Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management and River Sub-Basin around Tonle Sap Lake

​With the research collaboration with Cambodia Development and Research Institute (CDRI) under the project Climate Change and Water Governance in Cambodia, which previously was to increase the awareness about the relationship between fishery and ecosystems changes which are caused by climate change and the impacts on people living in Tonle Sap Basin, the Secretariat of Tonle Sap Authority hold a Training Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and River Sub-Basin around Tonle Sap Lake from 13 to 15 August 2015 in Pusat City under the auspices of H.E Khov Meas, Deputy Secretary General of Tonle Sap Authority, High Representative of Minister of Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and Chairman of Tonle Sap Authority. The composition of the participants were from Tonle Sap Authority, Ministry of Environment, Cambodian National Mekong Committee, representatives of CDRI, provincial administration officials, Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, Department of Environment, Royal University of Agriculture and Water Consumers Community of Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang and Pusat provinces, in total of 31 people. This training workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of Tonle Sap Authority officials and relevant officials at national and sub-national levels to understand about the relationship between the integrated water resources management with the principles of watershed management in Tonle Sap region and climate change impacts on the socio-economy, environment and ecological system and the resilience of these effects ( adaptation to climate change) and to comprehend the key concepts and principles of IWRM by focusing on the methods of river sub-basin management, and supporting the planning of water resources management toward sustainability. As the expected results, participants would receive:
- Understanding of the basic principles and the importance of managing the river sub-basin which is the tool to support the IWRM planning in Tonle Sap region;
- Understanding of the process of the IWRM approach and effective tools;
- Understanding of climate change in Tonle Sap region and its relevant areas and the methods of adaptation to climate change; and
- Understanding of water resource issues related to natural resource management in the Tonle Sap region.​
